Στο Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο λειτουργούσε δανειστική βιβλιοθήκη από την έναρξη της λειτουργίας του το 1901. Επρόκειτο για μια πολύ σημαντική υπηρεσία, που παρείχε μορφωτικά μέσα στους σπουδαστές και τις σπουδάστριες της εποχής. Άλλωστε, στα πρώτα χρόνια λειτουργίας του Διδασκαλείου δεν είχε ακόμη ιδρυθεί στο Ηράκλειο δημοτική βιβλιοθήκη, η οποία ιδρύθηκε το 1908. Στον τελευταίο σωζόμενο συγκεντρωτικό κατάλογο βιβλίων του Διδασκαλείου εντοπίστηκαν 666 τίτλοι, ενταγμένοι σε 5 Ταξιθετικές Κατηγορίες (Τ.Κ.): α. Γράμματα - Επιστήμαι – Τέχναι. β. Επιστημονικά. γ. Ελεύθερα αναγνώσματα. δ. Βοηθητικά. ε. Διδακτικά. Η ανωτέρω ταξινόμηση δεν αντιστοιχούσε σε κάποια αυστηρή θεματική κατηγοριοποίηση με δεδομένο ότι ορισμένα βιβλία ίδιας θεματικής ταξινομήθηκαν σε διαφορετικές Τ.Κ..
Η Τ.Κ. «Ελεύθερα Αναγνώσματα» ήταν η πολυπληθέστερη της δανειστικής βιβλιοθήκης (από το σύνολο των 343 βιβλίων της συγκεκριμένης Τ.Κ. διασώθηκαν τα 67). Η Τ.Κ. περιελάμβανε ιδίως βιβλία από τις εκδοτικές δραστηριότητες του Συλλόγου προς Διάδοσιν Ωφελίμων Βιβλίων (ΣΔΩΒ, με ιδρυτή τον Δημήτριο Βικέλα). Συμπεριελάμβανε βιβλία από όλες τις εκδοτικές σειρές του ΣΔΩΒ, καθώς επίσης και βιβλία ποικίλων γνωστικών αντικειμένων, εκτός των σειρών αυτών. Η πρώτη σειρά «Ωφελίμων Βιβλίων» («Κόκκινα Βιβλία») κυκλοφόρησε το 1900-1908 και περιελάμβανε 100 βιβλία. Από αυτά, τα 99 υπήρχαν στη δανειστική βιβλιοθήκη του Διδασκαλείου. Αφορούσαν θέματα θρησκείας, ιστορίας, γεωγραφίας, θετικών επιστημών, οικονομίας, κοινωνίας, υγείας, ηθικής διαμόρφωσης του ατόμου και του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος. Επιπλέον, στη βιβλιοθήκη υπήρχαν 64 βιβλία από τη δεύτερη σειρά του Συλλόγου («Πράσινα Βιβλία», 1908-1940), η οποία περιελάμβανε 76 βιβλία και επιχειρούσε να τονίσει την έννοια του εθνικά και κοινωνικού ωφέλιμου. Τα θέματα των βιβλίων αναδείκνυαν την ιστορική μνήμη, τις εκδηλώσεις του λαϊκού βίου, ιστορικά και γλωσσικά θέματα.
Το βιβλίο "Οι ξένοι κι εμείς" ανήκε στην κατηγορία «Ελεύθερα Αναγνώσματα» της δανειστικής βιβλιοθήκης του Διδασκαλείου Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο. Πρόκειται για το εισαγωγικό μάθημα του Αλέξανδρου Δελμούζου στη Φιλοσοφική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, όπου αντιπαραβάλλει το ελληνικό εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα με το αντίστοιχο γερμανικό. Ο Αλέξανδρος Δελμούζος προτείνει την οργανική αφομοίωση εκείνων των εκπαιδευτικών και πολιτισμικών προτύπων από το γερμανικό εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα που θα αναβαθμίσουν την ελληνική εκπαίδευση, προσαρμοσμένων όμως στην ελληνική εκπαιδευτική πραγματικότητα. Σε μια τέτοια βάση η καθιέρωση της δημοτικής γλώσσας και η εφαρμογή των αρχών του Σχολείου Εργασίας θεωρεί ότι επρόκειτο να συντελέσουν στον εκσυγχρονισμό της ελληνικής εκπαίδευσης και στη δημιουργία ενός ζωντανού εθνικού πολιτισμού. Ο συγγραφέας Αλέξανδρος Δελμούζος (1880-1956) ήταν ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους Έλληνες παιδαγωγούς και φιλελεύθερους μεταρρυθμιστές του 20ου αιώνα με σημαντική δράση στον Εκπαιδευτικό Όμιλο και υποστηρικτής του δημοτικισμού.

A lending library was operated in the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion since the beginning of its establishment in 1901. It was a very important facility, which provided educational tools to the students of that time. After all, in the first years of the operation of the Didaskaleion, a municipal library had not yet been established in Heraklion. The municipal library was founded in 1908. In the last surviving consolidated list of books of the Didaskaleion, 666 titles were found, included in 5 Classification Categories (C.C.): a. Letters - Science - Art. b. Scientific. c. Free readings. d. Ancillary. e. Didactic. The above classification did not correspond to any strict thematic categorization given that some books of the same subject were classified in different C.C..
"Free Readings" was the most multitudinous C.C. of the lending library (out of the total of 343 books of this particular C.C., 67 were saved). The C.C. included, mainly books from the publishing activities of the Society for the Distribution of Useful Books (SDUB, founded by Dimitrios Vikelas). It included books from all the publishing series of SDUB, as well as books on a variety of academic subjects, outside of these series. The first series "Useful Books" ("Red Books") was published in 1900-1908 and included 100 books. 99 of them were found in the Didaskaleion's lending library. They dealt with religion, history, geography, positive sciences, economy, society, health, moral formation of the individual and the natural environment. In addition, in the library there were 64 books from the second series of the Society ("Green Books", 1908-1940), which included 76 books and attempted to emphasize the concept of national and social utility. The themes of the books highlighted historical memory, events of popular life, historical and linguistic themes.
The book "Τhe Foreigners and Us" belonged to the "Free Readings" category of the lending library of the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion. This is the introductory course of Alexandros Delmouzos at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Thessaloniki, where he contrasts the Greek educational system with the corresponding German. Alexandros Delmouzos proposes the organic assimilation of those educational and cultural standards from the German educational system that will upgrade Greek education, adapted, though, to the Greek educational reality. On such a basis, he believed that the establishment of the Dimotiki language and the application of the principles of the Work School, were to contribute to the modernization of Greek education and the creation of a living national culture. Alexandros Delmouzos (1880-1956) was one of the greatest Greek educators and liberal reformers of the 20th century with significant activity in the Educational Association and supporter of dimoticism.

Une bibliothèque de prêtfonctionnait à Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion depuis son ouverture en 1901. C’était un service très important qui fournissait des supports et outils pédagogiques aux étudiants et aux étudiantes de l’époque. D’ailleurs, pendant les premières années de fonctionnement de Didaskalio, il n’y avait pas de bibliothèque municipale à Héraklion ; celle-ci a été fondée en 1908. Dans le dernier dernier catalogueré capitulatif de livres de Didaskalio qui a été retrouvé, 666 titres d’ouvrages ont été identifiés et ceux-ci étaient classés en 5 catégories : a. Lettres–Sciences – Arts. b. Ouvrages scientifiques. c. Lectures libres. d. Guides pratiques. e. Livres de didactique/ manuels scolaires. La classification présentée ci-dessus ne correspondait pas à une catégorisation stricte, étant donné que certains ouvrages de la même thématique avaient été classés en catégories différentes.
La catégorie «Lectures libres» était la plus volumineuse de la bibliothèque de prêt (sur un total de 343 ouvrages de cette catégorie, seuls 67 ont été sauvés). Cette catégorie comportait surtout des ouvrages édités par l’Association pour la Diffusion des Livres Utiles (fondée par Dimitrios Vikelas). Elle comprenait des ouvrages de toutes les collections de cette Association, ainsi que des livres de diverses disciplines qui n’appartenaient pas à ces collections. La première collection de «Livres Utiles» («Livres rouges») a été publiée en 1900-1908 et comprenait 100 ouvrages. 99 d’entre eux se trouvaient dans la bibliothèque de prêt de Didaskalio. Ils portaient sur des sujets ayant trait à la religion, l’histoire, la géographie, les sciences, l’économie, la société, la santé, la formation morale de l’individu et l’environnement naturel. En plus, dans la bibliothèque il y avait 64 ouvrages de la deuxième collection de l’Association («Livres verts», 1908-1940) laquelle comprenait 76 ouvrages et tentait de mettre l’accent sur l’idée d’une utilité nationale et sociale. Les thèmes abordés mettaient en lumière la mémoire historique, les événements de la vie populaire ainsi que des sujets historiques et linguistiques.
Le livre "Les Étrangers et nous" appartenait à la catégorie «Lectures libres»de la bibliothèque de prêt de Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion.Il s’agit du cours introductif d’Alexandros Delmouzos à l’École Philosophique de l’Université de Thessalonique, où il compare le système éducatif grec avec celui de l’Allemagne. Alexandros Delmouzos proposeque la Grèce assimile certains éléments éducatifs et culturelsdu système éducatif allemand qui pourraient améliorer l’éducation grecque, mais en les adaptant à la réalité éducative grecque. Dans cette perspective, il considérait quel’ établissement de l’usage de langue démotique (grec moderne, langue populaire parlée) etl’application des principes de l’ «École du travail» pourraient contribuer à la modernisation de l’éducation grecque et à la création d’une culture nationale vivante. Alexandros Delmouzos (1880-1956) était l’un des plus grands pédagogues grecs et réformateurs libéraux du 20ème siècle, qui avait réalisé des activités importantes au sein du Club Éducatif (association fondée par des écrivains, des éducateurs et des politiciens) et a été fervent partisan du courant Dimotikismos (mouvement intellectuel soutenant l’usage de la langue grecque moderne contre l’archaïsme qui dominait à l’époque dans les usages de la langue).
