Στο Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο λειτουργούσε δανειστική βιβλιοθήκη από την έναρξη της λειτουργίας του το 1901. Επρόκειτο για μια πολύ σημαντική υπηρεσία, που παρείχε μορφωτικά μέσα στους σπουδαστές και τις σπουδάστριες της εποχής. Άλλωστε, στα πρώτα χρόνια λειτουργίας του Διδασκαλείου δεν είχε ακόμη ιδρυθεί στο Ηράκλειο δημοτική βιβλιοθήκη, η οποία ιδρύθηκε το 1908. Στον τελευταίο σωζόμενο συγκεντρωτικό κατάλογο βιβλίων του Διδασκαλείου εντοπίστηκαν 666 τίτλοι, ενταγμένοι σε 5 Ταξιθετικές Κατηγορίες (Τ.Κ.): α. Γράμματα - Επιστήμαι – Τέχναι. β. Επιστημονικά. γ. Ελεύθερα αναγνώσματα. δ. Βοηθητικά. ε. Διδακτικά. Η ανωτέρω ταξινόμηση δεν αντιστοιχούσε σε κάποια αυστηρή θεματική κατηγοριοποίηση με δεδομένο ότι ορισμένα βιβλία ίδιας θεματικής ταξινομήθηκαν σε διαφορετικές Τ.Κ..
Η Τ.Κ. «Διδακτικά» περιελάμβανε ως επί το πλείστον σχολικά βιβλία νεοελληνικής γλώσσας και αρχαίας ελληνικής γλώσσας και γραμματολογίας και ορισμένους τίτλους ξένης λογοτεχνίας, ιστορίας και φυσικών επιστημών.
Το βιβλίο "Απολογία Σωκράτους, διά την τρίτην τάξιν των Γυμνασίων" ανήκε στην κατηγορία «Διδακτικά» της δανειστικής βιβλιοθήκης του Διδασκαλείου Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο. Πρόκειται για την τέταρτη έκδοση του σχολικού εγχειριδίου της Γ΄ τάξης των τετρατάξιων Γυμνασίων και της αντίστοιχης τάξης των υπόλοιπων σχολείων της Μέσης Εκπαίδευσης. Το βιβλίο περιέχει κείμενο στην αρχαία ελληνική, πλήθος σημειώσεων στη νέα ελληνική, καθώς και σύντομα εισαγωγικά σχόλια για τον Πλάτωνα. Περιγράφεται η δίκη του Σωκράτη και η απολογία του στο δικαστήριο όταν καταδικάστηκε σε θάνατο. Ο επιμελητής της έκδοσης, Σπυρίδων Στουραϊτής, ήταν φιλόλογος που είχε επίσης αναλάβει την επιμέλεια σχολικών εγχειριδίων αρχαίων ελληνικών με κείμενα του Ξενοφώντα. Ο Πλάτωνας (427-347 π.Χ.) ήταν μαθητής του Σωκράτη και ένας από τους σπουδαιότερους φιλόσοφους της αρχαιότητας. Με το έργο του επηρέασε σε μεγάλο βαθμό την εξέλιξη της φιλοσοφίας και της επιστήμης στην εποχή του, ενώ μελετάται έως σήμερα.

A lending library was operated in the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion since the beginning of its establishment in 1901. It was a very important facility, which provided educational tools to the students of that time. After all, in the first years of the operation of the Didaskaleion, a municipal library had not yet been established in Heraklion. The municipal library was founded in 1908. In the last surviving consolidated list of books of the Didaskaleion, 666 titles were found, included in 5 Classification Categories (C.C.): a. Letters - Science - Art. b. Scientific. c. Free readings. d. Ancillary. e. Didactic. The above classification did not correspond to any strict thematic categorization given that some books of the same subject were classified in different C.C..
The C.C. "Didactic" included mostly textbooks of Modern Greek language and ancient Greek language and grammar and some books about foreign literature, history and natural sciences.
The book "Apology of Socrates, for the third grade of high schools", belonged to the "Didactic" category of the lending library of the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion. This is the fourth edition of the textbook for the 3rd grade of the four-grade high schools and the corresponding grade of the other secondary schools. The book contains text in ancient Greek, numerous notes in Modern Greek, as well as brief introductory comments on Plato. It describes the trial of Socrates and his plea in court when he was sentenced to death. The editor of the publication, Spyridon Stouraitis, was a philologist who had also undertaken the editing of ancient Greek texts by Xenophon for the school textbooks. Plato (427-347 BC) was a student of Socrates and one of the greatest philosophers of antiquity. With his work, he greatly influenced the development of philosophy and science in his time and continues to be studied to this day.

Une bibliothèque de prêtfonctionnait à Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion depuis son ouverture en 1901. C’était un service très important qui fournissait des supports et outils pédagogiques aux étudiants et aux étudiantes de l’époque. D’ailleurs, pendant les premières années de fonctionnement de Didaskalio, il n’y avait pas de bibliothèque municipale à Héraklion ; celle-ci a été fondée en 1908. Dans le dernier catalogueré catalogueré capitulatif de livres de Didaskalio qui a été retrouvé, 666 titres d’ouvrages ont été identifiés et ceux-ci étaient classés en 5 catégories : a. Lettres–Sciences – Arts. b. Ouvrages scientifiques. c. Lectures libres. d. Guides pratiques. e. Livres de didactique/ manuels scolaires. La classification présentée ci-dessus ne correspondait pas à une catégorisation stricte, étant donné que certains ouvrages de la même thématique avaient été classés en catégories différentes.
La catégorie «Livres de didactique/ manuels scolaires» comportait principalement des manuels scolaires de grec moderne et de grec ancien, de grammatologie de l’Antiquité, ainsi que certains livres de littérature étrangère, d’histoire et des sciences naturelles.
Le livre "Apologie de Socrate, pour la troisième année des collèges" appartenait à la catégorie «Livres de didactique/ manuels scolaires» de la bibliothèque de prêt de Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion. Il s’agit delaquatrième édition du manuel scolaire de la troisième année des collèges (dispensant un programme d’enseignement d’une durée de 4 années) et du niveau équivalent des autres écoles du secondaire. Ce livre comporte des text esengrecancien, plusieurs notes et commentaires en grec moderne, ainsi que des courtes informations introductives à propos de Platon. On y présente le procès de Socrate et son plaidoyerdevant le tribunal quand il a été condamné à mort. Le livre a été édité par SpyridonStouraitis, qui était professeur de grec et philologue et qui avait édité des manuels scolaires du grec ancien comportant des textes de Xénophon. Platon (427-347 av. J.-C.) était élève de Socrate et l’un des plus grands philosophes de l’Antiquité. Son œuvre a beaucoup influencé l’évolution de la philosophie et de la science à son époque, et elle est étudiée encore aujourd’hui.
