Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Εραλδικό σύνολο με τον Βενετικό λέοντα συνοδευόμενο από τα οικόσημα τεσσάρων Βενετών αξιωματούχων, από τα οποία τα δύο ήταν (ήδη από τις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα τουλάχιστον) κατεστραμμένα. Τοποθετήθηκε στο υπέρθυρο της κυρίας πύλης του Φραγκοκάστελου, με την ευκαιρία οχυρωματικών εργασιών των ετών 1593-1597. Υπενθυμίζεται ότι η Κρήτη διετέλεσε υπό βενετική κυριαρχία από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα έως το 1645 (1669 σε ό,τι αφορά το φρούριο του Χάνδακα).

Historical Notice: Heraldic ensemble bearing the lion of Saint Mark and the coats-of-arms of four Venetian officials, two of which were completely destroyed (at least since the begining of the 20th c.). It was posed above the main gate of Frangokastello (Castelfranco) during the works of fortification carried out between 1593 and 1597. The island of Crete was under Venetian rule from the early 13th century to 1645 (1669 in the case of the castle of Candia).
