Ο πυρσός πού χρησιμοποιήθηκε γιά τη μεταφορά τής φλόγας στήν Ολυμπιάδα τής Μόσχας, σχεδιάστηκε από ομάδα μηχανικών καί διέφερε σημαντικά από τούς προηγούμενους. Είχε μήκος 565 mm, διάμετρο 29 mm, βάρος 700 γραμμάρια καί ικανότητα καύσεως 8 έως 10 λεπτά. Πάνω του ήταν χαραγμένο τό εξής λογότυπο MOSCOW OLYMPIAD 1980.
