The Folklife and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia-Thrace Museum collection encompasses a broad spectrum of material: 22,000 ethnographic artefacts that document the traditional and pre-industrial culture of the wider region.
13,323 items from the Museum’s holdings are digitized and available through SearchCulture. Artefacts such as ceramic, glass, and stone objects, garments and embroidery, jewelry, tools and household utensils, musical instruments, weapons, and a collection of shadow-theatre figures.
The collection further includes a corpus of photographs, mainly documenting events and exhibitions, as well as an audiovisual archive of ethnographic videos, an audio archive with ethnographic interviews, and a small body of texts, primarily manuscripts of folkloric and legal character, such as purchase agreements, schoolbooks and school records, and ephemera
The collection documents the transition from traditional to modern society, weaving a narrative of human life, technology, art, social practices, and collective agency in the region.
