The digital collection of the Centre for the Study of Modern Hellenism of the Academy of Athens documents a wide range of material related to the history of urban, rural and diasporic Greek communities from the eighteenth century to the present day. The collection of around 18.000 items mainly includes texts, such as correspondence, administrative documents, printed publications, traveller’s sketches, archival material, and photographs originating from research projects, personal archives, family libraries, and historical collections.
Thematically, it covers the history of modern Greece, with particular emphasis on the Greek War of Independence, the formation of the Greek state, the political and social life of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and modern historiography. The collection includes archival material, manuscripts, scholarly publications, journals, drawings, maps, personal diaries, and photographic material that illuminate historical events, prominent figures, historic cites and monuments and political of modern Greek history.
