Institution : Academy of Athens
The collections of the repository of the Research Centre for Greek Folklore of the Academy of Athens bring together and document a wide range of material related to Greek folk culture and the social life of modern Hellenism.
They include a large body of digitized objects associated with every day, religious, and rural life, as well as garments and handicrafts, and a collection of digitized musical instruments from Greece and around the world. There are also textual archival documents, articles, and research data deriving from fieldwork in folklore studies, documenting customs, professional activities, and aspects of everyday life in various regions of Greece. Particularly significant is the Centre’s film archive, which records practices of agricultural and pastoral life, traditional techniques, and cultural expressions of the Greek world, constituting a valuable resource for the study of modern Greek folk tradition.
