Center for Research on Modern Greek Dialects and Idioms  

The digital collection of the Research Centre for Modern Greek Dialects and Idioms of the Academy of Athens contains material related to the study of Modern Greek dialects and the historical development of the Greek language. The collection comprises approximately 235 manuscripts with linguistic field recordings, 8 books—mainly volumes of the Historical Dictionary of Modern Greek—as well as more than 13,000 lexical record slips documenting dialect entries. 

The material chronologically spans from the early nineteenth century to the present and derives largely from manuscript recordings of spoken language, linguistic and folkloric studies, and written texts in both Standard Modern Greek and its dialectal varieties. The collection documents the geographical and historical diversity of the Greek language and constitutes an important resource for the study of Greek lexicography and the diachronic continuity of the Greek linguistic tradition.
